Olive Production in Spain - 2022
In 2022, production of olives decreased by -0.7% to 8.2M tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, the total production indicated a temperate expansion from 2017 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +37.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak volume of 9.8M tons. From 2019 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum. Olive output in Spain indicated a moderate increase, which was largely conditioned by a tangible increase of the harvested area and a measured expansion in yield figures.
In value terms, olive production rose slightly to $6B in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 41%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $9.7B. From 2019 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.
Olive Harvested Area in Spain - 2022
In 2022, the total area harvested in terms of olives production in Spain amounted to 2.6M ha, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year's figure. In general, the harvested area showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the harvested area increased by 0.9%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to olive production reached the maximum at 2.6M ha in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Olive Yield in Spain - 2022
The average yield of olives in Spain dropped modestly to 3.1 tons per ha in 2022, stabilizing at the year before. Over the period under review, the yield indicated a measured increase from 2017 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last five years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, olive yield increased by +36.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the yield increased by 49%. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of 3.8 tons per ha. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the average olive yield failed to regain momentum.
