Orange Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average orange export price amounted to $637 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 42% against the previous month. The export price peaked in July 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,007 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($555 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average orange import price amounted to $180 per ton, declining by -57.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 306% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $575 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($820 per ton), while the price for Swaziland amounted to $71 per ton.
