Meat and Poultry Price in Thailand (FOB) - 2022
The average meat and poultry export price stood at $3,172 per ton in 2022, jumping by 24% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($4,435 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($1,128 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average meat and poultry import price amounted to $8,029 per ton, with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed prominent growth. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($45,607 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($910 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+14.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Meat and poultry exports from Thailand dropped to 367K tons in 2022, with a decrease of -3.3% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 0.7% against the previous year.
In value terms, meat and poultry exports soared to $1.2B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. For the fourth year in a row, Thailand recorded growth in purchases abroad of meat and poultry, which increased by 19% to 29K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +24.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +90.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, meat and poultry imports soared to $230M in 2022. Overall, imports posted a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
