Date Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2023
The average date import price stood at $2,736 per ton in July 2023, surging by 44% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a measured increase from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.4% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, date import price increased by +44.2% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 68% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in July 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Israel ($9,494 per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($871 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+12.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average date export price stood at $3,552 per ton in 2022, which is down by -13.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 108% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4,177 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Caledonia ($7,947 per ton), while the average price for exports to Australia ($2,014 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the third year in a row, New Zealand recorded decline in overseas purchases of dates, which decreased by -4% to 2.1K tons in 2022. In general, imports recorded a drastic downturn.
