Chili and Pepper Price in the UK (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average chili and pepper import price amounted to $2,666 per ton, with a decrease of -5.1% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $3,099 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($2,780 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($1,549 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chili and Pepper Price in the UK (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average chili and pepper export price amounted to $4,727 per ton, rising by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, chili and pepper export price increased by +57.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 58% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($5,775 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($2,121 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chili and Pepper Imports in the UK
In 2022, imports of chilies and peppers (green) into the UK rose markedly to 241K tons, increasing by 5.2% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 8.3%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 257K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, chili and pepper imports amounted to $518M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 13%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $522M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
