Beef Price in India (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average beef export price amounted to $2,961 per ton, waning by -1.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 9.6% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $3,016 per ton in June 2023, and then contracted slightly in the following month.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Saudi Arabia ($3,222 per ton) and Indonesia ($3,158 per ton), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($2,701 per ton) and the Philippines ($2,786 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beef Price in India (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average beef import price amounted to $3,263 per ton, declining by -5.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,447 per ton, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($8,491 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($1,138 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beef Exports in India
In 2022, exports of beef (cattle meat) from India totaled 1.1M tons, picking up by 2% compared with the previous year. In general, exports, however, recorded a mild shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 9%.
In value terms, beef exports dropped to $3B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 7.4%.

Beef Imports in India
After two years of decline, purchases abroad of beef (cattle meat) increased by 2.4% to 649 tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction.
In value terms, beef imports contracted modestly to $2.1M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 6.5%.
