In general, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, production of growth failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of phosphides (excluding ferrophosphorus), hydrides, nitrides, azides, silicides and borides increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, exports of phosphides (excluding ferrophosphorus), hydrides, nitrides, azides, silicides and borides amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Belgium represented the major exporter of phosphides (excluding ferrophosphorus), hydrides, nitrides, azides, silicides and borides in the European Union, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. The Czech Republic (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Italy (X tons), France (X tons) and Germany (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total exports. Finland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Belgium was also the fastest-growing in terms of the phosphides (excluding ferrophosphorus), hydrides, nitrides, azides, silicides and borides exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Finland (X%), the Czech Republic (X%), Italy (X%) and France (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In general, imports saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of phosphides (excluding ferrophosphorus), hydrides, nitrides, azides, silicides and borides expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of phosphides (excluding ferrophosphorus), hydrides, nitrides, azides, silicides and borides, namely Belgium, Sweden and France, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Finland (X tons) took an X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (X%) and Germany (X%). Slovenia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
