In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the Asia-Pacific way-type unit head market, when its value decreased by -26.4% to $X. In general, consumption, however, enjoyed prominent growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, way-type unit head exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

China dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 69% of total exports in 2021. South Korea (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 7.2% share, followed by Japan (6.2%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (5.1%). The following exporters - Singapore (X tons), India (X tons) and Australia (X tons) - together made up 8.3% of total exports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the way-type unit heads for working metal exports, with a CAGR of +38.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, India (-5.1%), Australia (-11.7%), South Korea (-13.0%) and Japan (-15.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China increased by +65 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Japan ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 83% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, China, with a CAGR of +21.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 23%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+11.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of way-type unit heads for working metal increased by 31% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 80%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, way-type unit head imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt decline. Vietnam (X tons) took a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by China (4.8%). Thailand (X tons), Australia (X tons), Pakistan (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Japan (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Australia (with a CAGR of +59.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest way-type unit head importing markets in Asia-Pacific were Vietnam ($X), China ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined 72% share of total imports. Australia, Pakistan, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong SAR and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

Australia, with a CAGR of +51.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, falling by -15.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 15% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
