Way-Type Unit Head Exports

Exports from India

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of way-type unit heads for working metal decreased by -32.9% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 301%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, way-type unit head exports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 276%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Bangladesh (X tons), Nepal (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of way-type unit head exports from India, together comprising 49% of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, Oman, Germany, Canada, Djibouti, the United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Malaysia, Uganda and Bhutan, which together accounted for a further 43%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Bhutan (with a CAGR of +135.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Bangladesh ($X), Nepal ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest markets for way-type unit head exported from India worldwide, together comprising 53% of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, Germany, Canada, Djibouti, Kenya, Malaysia, Oman, Uganda, Bhutan and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 39%.

Bhutan, with a CAGR of +133.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average way-type unit head export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 4.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, way-type unit head export price decreased by -1.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 58%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into India

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of way-type unit heads for working metal decreased by -66.8% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 216%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, way-type unit head imports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 202% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
