Vegetable and Melon Price in Germany (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average vegetable and melon import price amounted to $1,527 per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 13%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Spain ($1,602 per ton) and Belgium ($1,577 per ton), while the price for Austria ($1,332 per ton) and France ($1,418 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Vegetable and Melon Price in Germany (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average vegetable and melon export price amounted to $356 per ton, with a decrease of -4.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 17%. The export price peaked at $391 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($737 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($220 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Vegetable and Melon Imports in Germany
In 2022, overseas purchases of vegetables and melons decreased by -8.1% to 4.2M tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 1.9%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 4.7M tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, vegetable and melon imports fell to $6.4B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 9.1% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $7B, and then dropped in the following year.

As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, vegetable and melon exports stood at $923M in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 8.5% against the previous year.
