Tomato Price in Ukraine (CIF) - 2023
The average tomato import price stood at $1,529 per ton in August 2023, reducing by -4.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a moderate expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, tomato import price increased by +59.4% against December 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 19% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,594 per ton, and then reduced modestly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($2,704 per ton), while the price for Moldova ($250 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tomato Price in Ukraine (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average tomato export price amounted to $624 per ton, falling by -74.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 348% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $4,541 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Poland ($979 per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($332 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Tomato Imports in Ukraine
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of tomatoes, when their volume decreased by -7.2% to 94K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year.
In value terms, tomato imports skyrocketed to $89M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +78.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 56%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Tomato Exports in Ukraine
In 2022, overseas shipments of tomatoes decreased by -95.4% to 300 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports showed a sharp setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 20%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 10K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, tomato exports contracted sharply to $833K in 2022. Overall, exports faced a dramatic descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 8.7%.
