Tomato Price in Austria (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average tomato import price amounted to $1,798 per ton, reducing by -10.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, tomato import price decreased by -23.4% against February 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 22% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,346 per ton. From March 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,974 per ton), while the price for Slovenia ($761 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average tomato export price stood at $1,669 per ton in August 2023, dropping by -17.5% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated tangible growth from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, tomato export price decreased by -17.5% against July 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 34% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,246 per ton. From March 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Italy ($4,091 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($1,290 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
