Sugar Price in Norway (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average sugar import price amounted to $2,692 per ton, growing by 44% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a tangible expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, sugar import price increased by +90.9% against May 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 90% m-o-m. The import price peaked in August 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($4,742 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($1,708 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Sugar Price in Norway (FOB) - 2022
The average sugar export price stood at $3,183 per ton in 2022, picking up by 93% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate resilient growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Denmark.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Iceland amounted to +39.3% per year.
Sugar Imports in Norway
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of sugar decreased by -6.7% to 742 tons in 2022. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 6.2%.
In value terms, sugar imports reduced modestly to $1.5M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.6M, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
