In 2022, the average spices; saffron import price amounted to $67,182 per ton, waning by -53.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a mild expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 376%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $186,714 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($263,000 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($36,314 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+90.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 356%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $103,333 per ton, and then declined sharply in the following year.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the Netherlands.
