Shelled Walnut Price in Romania (FOB) - 2023
The average shelled walnut export price stood at $3,847 per ton in June 2023, waning by -16.4% against the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 14% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $5,447 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was France ($5,794 per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($3,354 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average shelled walnut import price stood at $4,009 per ton in June 2023, waning by -7.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 an increase of 74% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $5,725 per ton. From November 2022 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($6,824 per ton), while the price for Croatia ($814 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Shelled Walnut Exports in Romania
For the fourth consecutive year, Romania recorded growth in overseas shipments of shelled walnuts, which increased by 13% to 7.7K tons in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +62.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 36%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, shelled walnut exports skyrocketed to $49M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 37%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
