The average import price for spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground stood at $1,296 per ton in January 2024, surging by 10% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 46% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,868 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to January 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($1,523 per ton), while the price for China stood at $1,266 per ton.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average export price for spices; ginger, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $2,247 per ton, falling by -2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $6,437 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($2,869 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($1,315 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lebanon (+15.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
