Price for Iron and Steel Wire in India (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average iron and steel wire export price amounted to $3,002 per ton, with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 27%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($4,009 per ton), while the average price for exports to Nepal ($812 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Iron and Steel Wire in India (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average iron and steel wire import price amounted to $1,932 per ton, growing by 11% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, iron and steel wire import price increased by +45.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($4,252 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($808 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Iron and Steel Wire in India
In 2022, exports of iron and steel wire from India contracted significantly to 195K tons, which is down by -19.4% against 2021. Overall, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +25.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 55%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 242K tons, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, iron and steel wire exports contracted modestly to $587M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 87%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $588M, leveling off in the following year.
