In June 2023, the average import price for frozen lamb carcasses and half-carcasseses amounted to $4,819 per ton, picking up by 3.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 an increase of 8.9% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $6,103 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were New Zealand ($5,571 per ton) and Chile ($5,387 per ton), while the price for Uruguay ($4,727 per ton) and Australia ($4,758 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (-1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
