Grape Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average grape import price amounted to $4,146 per ton, picking up by 41% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a slight expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, grape import price increased by +53.5% against May 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 50% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $5,515 per ton. From February 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,598 per ton), while the price for Australia ($2,782 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Grape Price in Japan (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average grape export price amounted to $27,809 per ton, waning by -5.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 an increase of 48% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $47,484 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Thailand ($31,905 per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($31,051 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($24,776 per ton) and Malaysia ($26,702 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Grape Imports in Japan
In 2022, grape imports into Japan dropped to 34K tons, waning by -8.5% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep contraction. The smallest decline of -5% was in 2020.
In value terms, grape imports fell to $102M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 1%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $132M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
