Ginger Price in Vietnam (FOB) - 2021
In December 2021, the average ginger export price amounted to $3,192 per ton, reducing by -2% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated modest growth from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, ginger export price increased by +28.9% against October 2021 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2021 an increase of 49% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,807 per ton. From August 2021 to December 2021, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($4,390 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,738 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ginger Price in Vietnam (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average ginger import price amounted to $1,043 per ton, falling by -4.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ginger import price decreased by -7.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 39%. The import price peaked at $1,122 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($1,933 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($306 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Ginger Exports in Vietnam
In 2022, the amount of ginger exported from Vietnam totaled 5.6K tons, surging by 8% against 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 8.6K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ginger exports soared to $14M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Ginger Imports in Vietnam
In 2022, approx. 14K tons of ginger were imported into Vietnam; shrinking by -50.4% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports showed a sharp slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 13%.
