Chili and Pepper Price in China (FOB) - 2023
The average chili and pepper export price stood at $1,685 per ton in June 2023, jumping by 22% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 33% month-to-month. The export price peaked in June 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($1,840 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($254 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chili and Pepper Price in China (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average chili and pepper import price amounted to $1,735 per ton, rising by 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 127%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,812 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($2,138 per ton), while the price for Myanmar ($1,497 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2016 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+43.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Chili and Pepper Exports in China
Chili and pepper exports from China surged to 114K tons in 2022, jumping by 26% against 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years.
In value terms, chili and pepper exports soared to $145M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
