Banana and Plantain Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2023
The average banana and plantain import price stood at $739 per ton in September 2023, rising by 11% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $879 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($737 per ton), while the price for Ecuador amounted to $733 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Costa Rica (-0.5%).
Banana and Plantain Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2022
The average banana and plantain export price stood at $544 per ton in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 15%. The export price peaked at $3,971 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Iran ($716 per ton), while the average price for exports to Syrian Arab Republic ($264 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lebanon (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Banana and Plantain Imports in Turkey
In 2022, overseas purchases of bananas and plantains decreased by -80.8% to 55K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a significant contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 0.2% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 373K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, banana and plantain imports contracted remarkably to $38M in 2022. Overall, imports faced a dramatic descent. The smallest decline of -6.5% was in 2020.

Banana and Plantain Exports in Turkey
For the third year in a row, Turkey recorded decline in shipments abroad of bananas and plantains, which decreased by -97.2% to 4.6K tons in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant decrease. The smallest decline of -16.5% was in 2021.
In value terms, banana and plantain exports declined dramatically to $2.5M in 2022. Overall, exports faced a sharp downturn. The smallest decline of -10.2% was in 2021.
