Domestic Appliances Exports

In 2021, shipments abroad of domestic appliances increased by 12% to X units, rising for the fifth consecutive year after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, domestic appliances exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +62.7% against 2015 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China dominates exports structure, reaching X units, which was near 51% of total exports in 2021. Turkey (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Poland (X units). All these countries together held near 13% share of total exports. Germany (X units), Mexico (X units), Italy (X units), Romania (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and the United States (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Netherlands (+11.2%), Romania (+5.6%), Turkey (+4.8%), Poland (+4.8%), Germany (+2.0%) and Mexico (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +11.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Italy (-2.4%) and the United States (-4.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of China increased by +8.8 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest domestic appliances supplier worldwide, comprising 41% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 7.1% share of global exports. It was followed by Poland, with a 5.2% share.

In China, domestic appliances exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (+3.5% per year) and Poland (+7.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average domestic appliances export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 9.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+7.0%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the sixth year in a row, the global market recorded growth in purchases abroad of domestic appliances, which increased by 14% to X units in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, domestic appliances imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +58.7% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United States (X units), distantly followed by Germany (X units), France (X units) and the UK (X units) represented the key importers of domestic appliances, together committing 35% of total imports. Italy (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Japan (X units), Spain (X units), Russia (X units), Canada (X units), Poland (X units), Belgium (X units) and South Korea (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into the United States increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, South Korea (+14.4%), the Netherlands (+8.7%), Spain (+5.9%), Poland (+5.7%), Italy (+5.3%), Germany (+4.8%), Belgium (+4.2%), Canada (+3.4%), the UK (+2.7%) and France (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +14.4% from 2012-2021. Japan and Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The United States (+3.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
