Rice Market Size in Western Africa

In 2023, after two years of growth, there was decline in the West African rice market, when its value decreased by X% to $X. Rice Production in Western Africa

Exports by Country

Senegal represented the largest exporter of rice in Western Africa, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Togo (X%), Niger (X%) and Benin (X%).

Exports from Senegal decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Togo (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Togo emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Cote d'Ivoire (X%), Benin (X%) and Niger (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2023 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, rice imports declined to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2023, Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Benin (X tons) was the key importer of rice in Western Africa, generating X% of total import. Guinea (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Burkina Faso (X%), Ghana (X%) and Togo (X%).
