Wooden Particle Board Market Size in Southern Asia

The South Asian wooden particle board market shrank significantly to $X in 2021, waning by -25.4% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a deep downturn. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Wooden Particle Board Production in Southern Asia

In value terms, wooden particle board production totaled $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 1%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Bangladesh (X cubic meters) represented the largest exporter of wooden particle board, achieving 80% of total exports. It was distantly followed by India (X cubic meters), creating a 20% share of total exports.

Exports from Bangladesh increased at an average annual rate of +27.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, India (+48.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +48.0% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of India and Bangladesh increased by +15 and +6.9 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest wooden particle board supplying countries in Southern Asia were India ($X) and Bangladesh ($X).

In terms of the main exporting countries, India, with a CAGR of +29.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 58%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per cubic meter), while Bangladesh totaled $X per cubic meter.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bangladesh (-6.3%).

Imports in Southern Asia

For the third consecutive year, Southern Asia recorded decline in purchases abroad of wooden particle board, which decreased by -22.8% to X cubic meters in 2021. Overall, imports saw a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 304% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X cubic meters. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wooden particle board imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 180%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, India (X cubic meters) represented the largest importer of wooden particle board, making up 48% of total imports. Maldives (X cubic meters) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Nepal (X cubic meters) and Bangladesh (X cubic meters). All these countries together held near 45% share of total imports. Afghanistan (X cubic meters) and Sri Lanka (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into India decreased at an average annual rate of -6.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Nepal (+20.7%), Bangladesh (+10.9%) and Maldives (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nepal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +20.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Sri Lanka (-3.6%) and Afghanistan (-11.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Maldives (+13 p.p.), Nepal (+13 p.p.) and Bangladesh (+6.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Afghanistan (-3.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest wooden particle board importing markets in Southern Asia were Bangladesh ($X), India ($X) and Maldives ($X), together comprising 75% of total imports.

Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +26.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per cubic meter, with an increase of 86% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($X per cubic meter), while India ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sri Lanka (+21.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
