In value terms, lime exports amounted to $X in 2023. In general, exports, however, enjoyed modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2023, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Zambia was the key exporter of lime in SADC, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. Tanzania (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by South Africa (X%). Namibia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to lime exports from Zambia stood at X%. At the same time, Namibia (X%) and Tanzania (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Namibia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, South Africa (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Imports in SADC
In 2023, the amount of lime imported in SADC totaled X tons, stabilizing at the previous year's figure. Overall, imports posted a notable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, lime imports expanded to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Democratic Republic of the Congo was the key importer of lime in SADC, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Zimbabwe (X tons) and South Africa (X tons), together achieving a X% share of total imports. Madagascar (X tons), Mozambique (X tons), Namibia (X tons) and Swaziland (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to lime imports into Democratic Republic of the Congo stood at X%. At the same time, Madagascar (X%), Zimbabwe (X%), Mozambique (X%), Namibia (X%) and South Africa (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Madagascar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Swaziland (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X p.p.), Zimbabwe (X p.p.), Madagascar (X p.p.) and Mozambique (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Swaziland saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively.
