Peat Market Size in Europe

The Europe peat market reduced modestly to $X in 2023, shrinking by X% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a slight contraction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Peat Production in Europe

In value terms, peat production shrank slightly to $X in 2023 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, peat exports reduced to $X in 2023. Total exports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2022, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the five major exporters of peat, namely Latvia, Estonia, Germany, Lithuania and the Netherlands, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Ireland (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Finland (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Latvia ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Germany ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2023, together accounting for X% of total exports. Estonia, Lithuania, Belgium, Ireland, Sweden, Russia, Finland and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Russia, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2023, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2023, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2023 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
