Mercury Market Size in Europe

In 2023, the Europe mercury market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The total consumption indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mercury exports surged to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia was the major exporter of mercuries in Europe, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Switzerland (X tons), committing a X% share of total exports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the mercuries exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. Switzerland (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (X p.p.) and Switzerland (X p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Switzerland stood at $X per ton.

Mercury Imports

Imports in Europe

After three years of decline, purchases abroad of mercuries increased by X% to X tons in 2023. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable reduction. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mercury imports skyrocketed to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Switzerland represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at X% of total imports. Russia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Austria (X%). Romania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
