Exports of Non-Woven, Felt and Coated Textile Garments

Exports in Africa

For the third year in a row, Africa recorded decline in overseas shipments of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments, which decreased by X% to X units in 2023. In general, exports showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments declined remarkably to $X in 2023. Overall, exports saw a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2023, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2023, Tunisia (X units) was the main exporter of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments, achieving X% of total exports. Morocco (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Egypt (X units). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total exports. The following exporters - South Africa (X units), Zambia (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Lesotho (X units) - together made up X% of total exports.

Exports from Tunisia increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Zambia (X%), Morocco (X%), Lesotho (X%) and South Africa (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Egypt (X%) and Tanzania (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Tunisia (X p.p.), Morocco (X p.p.), Zambia (X p.p.) and South Africa (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Tanzania (X p.p.) and Egypt (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest non-woven, felt and coated textile garment supplying countries in Africa were Tunisia ($X), Egypt ($X) and Morocco ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports. South Africa, Lesotho, Zambia and Tanzania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

Zambia, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2023, reducing by X% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, export price for non-woven, felt and coated textile garments increased by X% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2023, imports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments in Africa expanded rapidly to X units, increasing by X% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments skyrocketed to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
