In October 2023, the average waferboard import price amounted to $571 per thousand cubic meters, which is down by -2.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 10% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $690 per thousand cubic meters in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to October 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($919 per thousand cubic meters), while the price for Turkey ($418 per thousand cubic meters) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average waferboard export price amounted to $345 per cubic meter, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, waferboard export price increased by +56.3% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 33% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Montenegro ($414 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($104 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
