Sweet Potato Price in the United Arab Emirates (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average sweet potato import price amounted to $1,284 per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 62%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,297 per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($1,809 per ton), while the price for the United States ($693 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sweet Potato Price in the United Arab Emirates (FOB) - 2022
The average sweet potato export price stood at $1,578 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -5.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 327%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,550 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Georgia.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Oman amounted to +10.6% per year.
Sweet Potato Imports in the United Arab Emirates
In 2022, approx. 4.4K tons of sweet potatoes were imported into the United Arab Emirates; declining by -11.1% compared with 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 13%.
In value terms, sweet potato imports dropped to $5.6M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.4% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $6.4M, and then declined in the following year.
