Sorghum Price in France (FOB) - 2023
The average sorghum export price stood at $386 per ton in August 2023, shrinking by -21.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 71% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,040 per ton. From April 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($451 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($284 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+19.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sorghum Price in France (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average sorghum import price amounted to $1,735 per ton, falling by -10.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 88%. The import price peaked at $2,666 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($3,124 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($405 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sorghum Exports in France
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of sorghum, when their volume decreased by -8.8% to 150K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 22%.
In value terms, sorghum exports rose significantly to $54M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +77.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Sorghum Imports in France
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of sorghum decreased by -21.7% to 4.4K tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 86%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 5.6K tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, sorghum imports shrank remarkably to $7.7M in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 141% against the previous year.
