Rye Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average rye import price amounted to $256 per ton, falling by -7.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 an increase of 22% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $338 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($447 per ton), while the price for Latvia ($200 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Rye Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average rye export price amounted to $162 per ton, dropping by -37.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 40% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $382 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($1,369 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($104 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+16.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Rye Imports in the Netherlands
In 2022, supplies from abroad of rye decreased by -34.4% to 180K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 196% against the previous year.
In value terms, rye imports contracted dramatically to $51M in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 141%.
