Pumpkin Price in Sri Lanka (FOB) - 2022
The average pumpkin export price stood at $1,494 per ton in 2022, rising by 35% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, pumpkin export price increased by +82.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Maldives ($2,215 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($626 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+19.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Pumpkin Price in Sri Lanka (CIF) - 2022
The average pumpkin import price stood at $1,058 per ton in 2022, surging by 125% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a precipitous curtailment. The import price peaked at $15,150 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Singapore.
From 2017 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for India amounted to +28.6% per year.
Pumpkin Exports in Sri Lanka
For the third consecutive year, Sri Lanka recorded decline in overseas shipments of pumpkin (squash and gourds), which decreased by -91.1% to 129 tons in 2022. In general, exports showed a precipitous setback. The smallest decline of -19.8% was in 2020.
In value terms, pumpkin exports contracted notably to $193K in 2022. Overall, exports saw a sharp contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 5.3% against the previous year.

Pumpkin Imports in Sri Lanka
In 2022, overseas purchases of pumpkin (squash and gourds) were finally on the rise to reach 555 kg for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant contraction.
In value terms, pumpkin imports soared to $587 in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a sharp slump.
