In 2022, production of strawberries decreased by -16.8% to 2.5K tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, production saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 0.9% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak volume of 3.9K tons. From 2019 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum. Strawberry output in New Zealand indicated a drastic downturn, which was largely conditioned by a abrupt slump of the harvested area and a pronounced setback in yield figures.
In value terms, strawberry production shrank to $25M in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production showed a deep setback.
