In July 2023, the average zinc; waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,344 per ton, dropping by -13.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 41% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $2,203 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($3,687 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($486 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In July 2023, the average zinc; waste and scrap import price amounted to $689 per ton, increasing by 24% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($3,299 per ton), while the price for Spain ($454 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Zinc; Waste and Scrap in France
In 2022, approx. 78K tons of zinc; waste and scraps were exported from France; dropping by -10.5% compared with 2021. Overall, exports showed a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 6.2% against the previous year. In value terms, zinc; waste and scrap exports surged to $154M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +66.3% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

For the third consecutive year, France recorded decline in purchases abroad of zinc; waste and scraps, which decreased by -9.2% to 56K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The smallest decline of -3.9% was in 2021.
In value terms, zinc; waste and scrap imports contracted to $34M in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 7.8% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $36M, and then declined in the following year.
