In 2022, the average import price for wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses amounted to $0.6 per litre, picking up by 2.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 23%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $0.8 per litre. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1.2 per litre), while the price for Spain ($0.5 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by North Macedonia (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In November 2023, the average export price for wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses amounted to $873 per thousand litres, shrinking by -58.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 194% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2.1 per litre in October 2023, and then declined remarkably in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($1.2 per litre), while the average price for exports to Poland stood at $447 per thousand litres.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, overseas purchases of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses decreased by -13.8% to 91M litres for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +25.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 106M litres, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, imports of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses dropped to $56M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $63M, and then reduced in the following year.

In 2022, shipments abroad of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses increased by 14% to 466K litres for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, faced a sharp curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum at 1M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses soared to $486K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant decline. The exports peaked at $1.1M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
