In December 2022, the average tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse import price amounted to $4,671 per ton, waning by -19.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when the average import price increased by 35% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $5,996 per ton. From July 2022 to December 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was the United States ($10,566 per ton), while the price for China ($774 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse export price amounted to $6,632 per ton, flattening at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 22% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $7,116 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($7,992 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($2,106 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+18.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Tobacco, Unmanufactured; Tobacco Refuse in South Korea
In 2022, approx. 48K tons of tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuses were imported into South Korea; picking up by 10% compared with the year before. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 11%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 53K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
