Price for Prepared or Preserved Fish and Dishes in the UK (CIF) - 2023
The average import price for prepared or preserved fish and dishes other than dried, smoked, salted or in brine stood at $6,407 per ton in December 2023, almost unchanged from the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 39% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $6,554 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($10,859 per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($4,239 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for prepared or preserved fish and dishes other than dried, smoked, salted or in brine stood at $7,187 per ton in December 2023, with an increase of 1.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 an increase of 23% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $10,285 per ton. From September 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($18,020 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($1,805 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Prepared or Preserved Fish and Dishes in the UK
In 2022, purchases abroad of prepared or preserved fish and dishes other than dried, smoked, salted or in brine decreased by -1.7% to 228K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth.
