The average import price for nuts, edible; cashew nuts, shelled, fresh or drieds stood at $6,696 per ton in October 2023, dropping by -10.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2023 an increase of 6.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $7,615 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Vietnam ($6,762 per ton) and Cote d'Ivoire ($6,614 per ton), while the price for Ghana ($5,948 per ton) and Brazil ($6,126 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average export price for nuts, edible; cashew nuts, shelled, fresh or drieds amounted to $6,893 per ton, declining by -5.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 52% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $12,019 per ton. From May 2023 to October 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($15,707 per ton), while the average price for exports to Algeria ($6,303 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+15.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of nuts, edible; cashew nuts, shelled, fresh or drieds decreased by -4.1% to 16K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 18% against the previous year.

In value terms, imports of nuts, edible; cashew nuts, shelled, fresh or drieds dropped to $121M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 10% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $133M, and then fell in the following year.
