In June 2023, the average nickel; unwrought, not alloyed import price amounted to $26,283 per ton, falling by -5.2% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated perceptible growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, nickel; unwrought, not alloyed import price increased by +15.1% against April 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 44% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $27,717 per ton in May 2023, and then reduced in the following month.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Poland ($26,693 per ton) and the Netherlands ($26,475 per ton), while the price for France ($25,364 per ton) and Italy ($25,999 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average nickel; unwrought, not alloyed export price amounted to $4,750 per ton, waning by -51% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 77% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $20,100 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($6,500 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($2,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+21.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports of Nickel; Unwrought, Not Alloyed in Romania

In 2022, purchases abroad of nickel; unwrought, not alloyeds was finally on the rise to reach 206 tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight downturn.

In value terms, nickel; unwrought, not alloyed imports skyrocketed to $5.3M in 2022. Overall, imports showed a significant expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

For the third consecutive year, Romania recorded decline in overseas shipments of nickel; unwrought, not alloyeds, which decreased by -84.6% to 4 kg in 2022. In general, exports recorded a dramatic descent. The smallest decline of -70.6% was in 2020.

In value terms, nickel; unwrought, not alloyed exports fell rapidly to $19 in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a sharp shrinkage. The smallest decline of -70% was in 2020.
