The average import price for mollusc preparations; mussels, prepared or preserveds stood at $7,018 per ton in 2022, reducing by -13.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 57%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $8,086 per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($33,359 per ton), while the price for Ireland ($4,300 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+12.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Moldova (+200.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of mollusc preparations; mussels, prepared or preserveds declined to $653K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 59% against the previous year.

In value terms, exports of mollusc preparations; mussels, prepared or preserveds plummeted to $191 in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 491% against the previous year.
