The average export price for ethylene polymers; waste, parings and scraps stood at $419 per ton in November 2023, waning by -8.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 13% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $483 per ton. From June 2023 to November 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($665 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($225 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for ethylene polymers; waste, parings and scraps stood at $349 per ton in November 2023, standing approximately at the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $407 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to November 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($473 per ton), while the price for the UK ($292 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, shipments abroad of ethylene polymers; waste, parings and scraps decreased by -15.6% to 306K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +64.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 102% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of ethylene polymers; waste, parings and scraps skyrocketed to $135M in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth.
