In October 2023, the average import price for cumin seeds, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $1,067 per ton, with an increase of 4.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2023 an increase of 13% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,290 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($1,195 per ton), while the price for Afghanistan amounted to $999 per ton.

From November 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+25.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average export price for cumin seeds, neither crushed nor ground amounted to $2,051 per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 176%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,198 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($12,806 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($420 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+79.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of cumin seeds, neither crushed nor ground shrank to $3.4M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +12.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 25%.

For the third year in a row, Uzbekistan recorded decline in overseas shipments of cumin seeds, neither crushed nor ground, which decreased by -56.2% to 30 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a precipitous descent. The smallest decline of -31.5% was in 2021.

In value terms, exports of cumin seeds, neither crushed nor ground dropped sharply to $61K in 2022. In general, exports saw a dramatic descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 83% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $219K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.
