Price for Crab and Crab Meat in Bahrain (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average crab and crab meat export price amounted to $3,448 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, crab and crab meat export price decreased by -4.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $3,590 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($5,129 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($2,538 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+16.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average crab and crab meat import price amounted to $10,339 per ton, surging by 638% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $10,538 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($27,690 per ton), while the price for China ($2,398 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Crab and Crab Meat in Bahrain
In 2022, overseas shipments of crabs and crab meat increased by 20% to 12K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a abrupt downturn.
In value terms, crab and crab meat exports skyrocketed to $40M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn.
