Price for Cereals; Millet, Other than Seed in Thailand (CIF) - 2024

In January 2024, the average import price for cereals; millet, other than seeds amounted to $468 per ton, with a decrease of -7.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 22% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $654 per ton. From October 2023 to January 2024, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($1,786 per ton), while the price for Russia ($391 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for cereals; millet, other than seeds amounted to $510 per ton, rising by 7.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 698%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $4,194 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,027 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($336 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Myanmar (+28.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports of Cereals; Millet, Other than Seed in Thailand

For the fourth consecutive year, Thailand recorded growth in supplies from abroad of cereals; millet, other than seeds, which increased by 20% to 12K tons in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cereals; millet, other than seed imports soared to $6.3M in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
