Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Myanmar (FOB) - 2022

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $1,027 per ton in December 2022, waning by -13.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 15% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,405 per ton in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to December 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was India ($2,291 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($534 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $632 per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 137%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,811 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($650 per ton), while the price for China ($282 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+71.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, aluminium waste and scrap exports from Myanmar was estimated at 17K tons, picking up by 5.5% against 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
