Preserved Tomato Price in Bulgaria (CIF) - 2023
The average preserved tomato import price stood at $1,374 per ton in June 2023, stabilizing at the previous month. In general, import price indicated a notable expansion from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, preserved tomato import price decreased by -6.5% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 an increase of 12% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,471 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($1,625 per ton) and Italy ($1,301 per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($1,194 per ton) and Poland ($1,221 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Tomato Price in Bulgaria (FOB) - 2022
The average preserved tomato export price stood at $1,413 per ton in 2022, picking up by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, preserved tomato export price increased by +69.4% against 2017 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($2,800 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($807 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Tomato Imports in Bulgaria
In 2022, purchases abroad of preserved tomatoes decreased by -0.3% to 6.4K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 13%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 6.6K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, preserved tomato imports expanded remarkably to $6.6M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +15.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
