Preserved Sauerkraut Price in Bulgaria (FOB) - 2023
The average preserved sauerkraut export price stood at $2,266 per ton in August 2023, declining by -21.5% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 20% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,887 per ton, and then declined significantly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($3,344 per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($1,099 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average preserved sauerkraut import price stood at $2,262 per ton in August 2023, dropping by -38.8% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 74% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,694 per ton, and then dropped sharply in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($4,663 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($1,129 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Sauerkraut Exports in Bulgaria
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of preserved sauerkraut decreased by -3.4% to 12K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 9.3% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 13K tons, and then fell in the following year.
