In 2022, the average preserved fish fillet import price amounted to $9,424 per ton, with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Albania ($14,803 per ton), while the price for Latvia ($3,221 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Albania (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average preserved fish fillet export price amounted to $10,274 per ton, shrinking by -22.1% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when the average export price increased by 43% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $13,190 per ton in May 2023, and then dropped dramatically in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($16,962 per ton), while the average price for exports to San Marino ($6,850 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas shipments of fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked) decreased by -13.5% to 2K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -13.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 90% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 2.3K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, preserved fish fillet exports shrank to $17M in 2022.
